Cumberland - Dunning at Beaton (Innes):
Woman, 54, killed in vehicle accidnet on Sunday morning
(Cumberland, Sunday, March 10, 2013) At approximately 7:43 a.m., two vehicles were involved in an accident at the intersection of Dunning Road and Beaton (Innes) Road. One woman pronounced dead at the scene.

The female, Janet Clermont, 54, was travelling northbound on Dunning Road driving a Chrysler Sebring. At the same time, a male (age 24) was driving an Infiniti eastbound on Beaton Road. The Infiniti failed to stop for the stop sign and entered the intersection nearly missing one vehicle before impacting with the Chrysler. The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to lose control entering the northeast ditch of Dunning Road.

Ottawa Police Service have charged Wassim Outifrakh, 24 year old, of Ottawa with one count of dangerous operation
of a motor vehicle causing death and one count of driving while ability impaired causing death. He is also charged with Exceeds 80mg blood alcohol content motor vehicle causing accident with fatality.

The Collision Investigations Unit is still investigating. Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Collision Investigations Unit at 613-0236-1222 ext. 2481 or phone Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 or toll free at 1-800-222-8477.

Driver (from Rockland?) airlifted to hospital

The CBC News reported that a woman was airlifted to an Ottawa hospital in critical condition after her car collided with an 18-wheeler in Eastern Ontario near the town of Wendover. The crash happened at about 9 a.m. near the intersection of County Road 17 and Concession Road 19, about 50 km east of Ottawa.

Wendover firefighters using the "jaws of life" extricated the woman from the vehicle before she was airlifted to hospital, said Prescott and Russell paramedic spokesman Gilles Lacroix.

The driver of the car was the only person in her vehicle. She was in critical condition at the time of transport, Lacroix said.

Traffic was diverted for several hours while police nvestigated.

2013 Fair theme is "Stirrup Some Fun"

(EMC News, Posted Thursday, January 31, 2013) The Cumberland Township Agricultural Society, which runs the annual Navan Fair, offered some updates at the recent annual meeting for its upcoming 68th fair year, to be held from August 8 to 11.

  • This year's theme: "Stirrup Some Fun"
  • Springfest planned for June 15

Award Winners:
Several awards were given to the members who have gone above and beyond.

  • The Sam and Janet Rathwell Family Award went to the Charlebois and Levesque family.
  • Audrey Hamilton received the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Service Diploma.
  • the Navan Fair Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Ardyth Elliott.
  • The Cumberland Township Agricultural Society Youth of Distinction Award went to Sydney, Taylor and Byron McNeely.

Early morning crash kills Dominique Malette
(Thursday, November 22, 2012) A Plantagenet man is dead after he was ejected from his car when it slammed into a hydro pole near the village early Thursday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police are trying to figure out what led to the accident.

Dominique Malette, 26, was driving a 2004 Dodge SX2 on County Road 9 between Station and Water Streets around 2:20 Thursday morning, when the vehicle left the road.

Malette was ejected from the car when it hit a hydro pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anti-asphalt community continues to lobby, awaiting council vote, Oct. 10
(Plantagenet, October 2012) When PB Paving and Landscaping chose to build its proposed asphalt plant on a vacant plot of land along County Road 17 in Plantagenet, local residents came together to protest. They made their intentions known at a public meeting in July when some 300 angry residents showed up to voice their concerns.

Fire crews battle blaze in Vars
(Tuesday, August 21, 2012) Ottawa fire fighters were called to a farmhouse on Forced Road near Rockdale and Russell Roads just before 7 a.m.this morning.

While it's not clear what sparked the blaze, firefighters believe it started in the kitchen. Fortunately no one was inside the home when the fire broke out, and crews were able to prevent it from spreading to the neighbouring barn.

Cause of fire is still undetermined. An estimate in damages is still unknown.

Restaurant reports to be made available to the public
According to the Vankleek Hill Review, the deadline for the launch of the Eastern Ontario Health Unit's (EOHU) online disclosure system to make restaurant reports available to the public has been pushed back once again.

Navan News: Visitors from Navan, Ireland
Orleans Online, Thursday, August 9, 2012) The town of Navan, Ontario welcomed 41 special guests from the town of Navan, Ireland on Thursday during the first day of a four day visit.

The 42 guests posed for a group picture outside St. Mary/s Anglican Church at noon and then went inside for a short tour before sitting down to lunch with some of Navan's oldest residents.

The visitors all hail from Navan, County Meath, pop. 28,600, about 50 km northwest of Dublin. The same place where Navan, Ontario founder Michael O'Meara hailed from.

A “large amount of food” was stolen from the Good Neighbours Food Bank in Embrun after a vehicle smashed into the building’s rear doors.

The Ontario Provincial Police in Russell Country investigation indicates that between 10:00pm on July 23 and 8:45am on July 24, 2012, an unknown vehicle smashed the rear doors to gain entry.  The unknown suspect(s) fled with a large amount of food.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Russell County OPP at 613-443-4499 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
