Clarence-Rockland Public Library exclusive

(Wednesday, June 27, 2012) The Clarence-Rockland Public Library has recently installed Ancestry Library Edition software on its computers. It is only accessible on
the Library's computers. It is part of the larger Ancestry.com system that is available online and which is being heavily advertised
on national television. The difference is that this library version is completely free. Here we see Nanci Bolduc,

from an American library with a similar facility. The -Clarence-Rockland Public Library does not charge for the
computer usage, however if a number of people are waiting to use the in-house computers, there may be a time limit

The Vision Newspaper updates look |
 (Saturday, June 23, 2012) Regular readers of the Vision Newspaper may have noticed in the past few weeks a cosmetic change within the paper edition. Each news or feature
item is titled within a solid bar across the top of the page, with the headline immediately below. The byline and
photo of the reporter is sometimes added and more colour has been introduced throughout the paper.

Ridge neighbours hosted their daughter's graduating class from Gisèle-Lalonde High School in Orlèans.

SQ confirm his body found near Plaisance, June 14
 Two weeks ago the Canaan
Connexion reported (below) that a body had been found in the Ottawa River near Plaisance, Quebec which is across from Treadwell.
It has now been confirmed by the Sûreté du Québec that it was Rockland resident, Mike Hudon,

Biplane flips on landing - two injured |
(Rockliffe, Sunday, June 17, 2012) If you were driving along Highway 174, towards Ottawa, as we were on Sunday
morning, you may have seen a vintage biplane flying along the Ottawa River. Turns out shortly after we observed

| Boat collision near Rockland sends two to hospital |
 (Rockland,
June 16, 2012) –The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged Guy Provost, 49, of Alfred-Plantagenet with two
counts of dangerous operation of a water vessel causing bodily harm.
Rockland OPP were called to a distress incident on Ottawa River on Saturday, June 16, around 10:00 p.m. to attended
a boat collision just east of Rockland close to Dallaire Road.
Two people who were passengers on a fishing boat had minor injuries after the boat collided with an object near
the shore. A 24-year-old man was taken to the Ottawa Hospital’s Civic campus and a 49-year-old woman was taken
to the Montfort Hospital. They both were treated for non life threatening injuries. The operator was located a
short time later.
Provost is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on July 18. |
Plaisance, Quebec:
Papineauville SQ recover body from Ottawa River |
 One week ago (Thursday, June 14), the Quebec Provincial Police (SQ) pulled a body from the Ottawa River
near Plaisance, which is located down river from Rockland, across from Treadwell.
A spokesperson for the Papineauville Sûreté du Québec (website) confirmed to the Canaan Connexion that a body has indeed been recovered, however he
was unable to give any further details except to say that the body has been sent to the forensic labatory in Montreal
for an autopsy examination and identification.
As of Friday, this week, the investigation was ongoing and the Sûreté du Québec were not able
to provide any additional information. We continue to follow this story. |

Galapagos islands
Lonesome George, last giant tortoise of its kind, dies at 100 |
 Lonesome George, the only remaining giant tortoise of the Pinta subspecies has died at
age 100. He had become the symbol of the Galapagos islands.
"Lonesome George" was believed to be the last of the La Pinta subspecies and died of unknown causes on
Sunday, the Galapagos National Park confirmed.
If there's a giant tortoise heaven, Lonesome George is lonesome no more. Read more...

| Stroller recalls after finger amputations |
|
 A popular stroller is being recalled after reports of finger amputations.
So far, three children have lost their fingertips while using the stroller made by Kolcraft..
In the past six years, 36,000 defective strollers were sold in Canada and the US. A child or
adult's finger can get caught in the opening that is formed when locking and unlocking the hinge mechanism, which
is used to adjust the handlebars on the strollers.

| Rockland Mac's Milk store robbed |
|
 (Rockland, Thursday, June 7, 2012) ) The Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) Crime unit is investigating a robbery that took place at the Mac’s Milk store on Laurier street on
Thursday, June 7.
Around 07:00 a.m., a lone male entered the store and demanded cigarettes while showing a knife
to the employee. He then fled the store with cigarettes and other merchandise.
Investigators are looking for a white man in his late teens. He evidently used a vehicle however
there was no description given.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Stephane
Noel at 613-443-4499 or at 1-888-310-1122.

the call and you will not have to testify in court. If your information leads to an arrest you may qualify for

| Young Franco-Ontarians sought for video projects |

aged 10 to 20 from the cities of Ottawa, Clarence-Rockland, Embrun, Hawkesbury, Alfred, Plantagenet, Kingston,
Cornwall, Thunder Bay and New Liskeard are invited to attend the next National Film Board (NFB) video shoot...
Future Web game.
A second video project to be produced by the NFB will be Parlez-vous encore français? (Do you still speak French?). The organizers are looking for young Francophones who are willing to go
on camera to for a short 10 to 15 second clip, talking about the place they come from.
The film crew will visit in each city throughout the month of June. Interested persons can contact the director

at du Moulin Park, on the Ottawa River, to announce festival activities.

 The City of Clarence-Rockland is organizing this year's Ottawa River Festival, to be held from July 6
to 8 at the du Moulin Park in Rockland as well as in several communities in the United Counties of Prescott and

Ashlea Maddex
Local athlete shooting for this summer's olympics |
 (Monday, June 4, 2012) St. Pascal-Baylon's own
Ashlea Maddex is working hard to make the National Team for the Olympic Games in London, England being held this
summer. Her mother, Teresa Robertson made a pitch on Monda y evening to the City Council for financial assistance to her
daughter.
Councillor Bernard Payer, pulled a $100 dollar bill from his pocket, waved it in the air, and challenged the rest
of the council and the puplic to match his donation. The mayor, Marcel Guibord, suggested that the council would
consider a donation, to be determined later.
Ashlea graduated from Rockland District High School in 2010, after attending Rockland Public School. She went on
to attend Ottawa University in 2011 and is am now, currently residing in North York, Ontario where she is attending
York University part-time, while training full-time with the Elite Edge Group.

Highway 174
Head-on collision closes busy highway |

June 2, 2012) Another serious accident on Saturday morning closed Highway 174 between Trim Road and Cameron Street,
tying up traffic for most of the day. Two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The investigation
continues. |
